In case you are not familiar, Facebook has a “check in” feature that allows users to tag themselves on a map and check in at their local businesses while they are there. Friends can see this and presumably get the chance to go down and hang with the person posting. While this alone can help generate knowledge and interest in your dealership, Facebook has a new feature that’s bound to help even more.
Now, when users check in at a business, they will be prompted to like its fan page. Those likes can show up on friends’ pages, giving you a double bonus when Facebook users visit your dealership. Best of all, at least for now, you don’t have to pay Facebook to get this extra exposure.
How does it Work?
When a user checks in, it is based on a geographic location. Setting up your Facebook local business fan page with that location will prompt Facebook to suggest to any user checking in that they like your dealership page. Then, friends of that user will not only see the check in, but also the corresponding like, giving those users the opportunity to like your page too. You can see how this might have a big impact on your likes.
Since Facebook fan pages are free and you don’t have to sponsor the added exposure for a check in based like, creating a fan page could be one of the most cost effective marketing decisions you’ve ever made.
