Search engine optimization – or SEO – seems to be a hot topic these days. But do we really know what it means? Client ConneXion wants to make sure you understand what this buzzword means. When you are typing a term into a search engine, like Google, the results that appear first have a high search engine ranking. SEO, however, is any activity that strives to increase that ranking for any given search. Your goal as a business is to be high in the search engine rankings. You can improve your ranking – first and foremost – by providing an adequate amount of content. This content should be interesting, creative and pertain to your business. Search engines only want the most authoritative and inventive pages in its search results. Within your content, use words and phrases that your target audience uses, too. According to Search Engine Watch, there are four elements that search engines look for when going through the ranking process: content, performance, authority, and user experience. Favorable content is based on the text on the page, the titles and descriptions. Performance is simply based on how quick your site runs and if it works properly. Authority pertains to your site’s content and if it is good enough to link to other sites (as a reference, citation, etc.). In all, SEO helps search engines create a seamless user experience, as well as helps them understand your website in order to recommend your site for relevant searches. Now that you have a basic grasp on how search engine rankings work, head over to our SEM/SEO ConneXion tab to learn about how we can help boost your business to the highest rankings.
